Important Information for Deepwater Horizon Incident Claimants Represented by Counsel
All government claimants may be represented by a lawyer in connection with its claim and/or funding request. BP will not treat a government entity's claim differently if it is represented by a lawyer. However, if the government entity is represented by a lawyer, BP is required to direct its communications through that lawyer, unless the lawyer provides BP with written authorization allowing it to communicate with the government entity or the person designated to handle the claim or funding request. The lawyer may do so by faxing a written authorization to 1-800-810-5650 or by e-mailing the authorization to GovernmentClaims@bp.com.
If it is more convenient, the government entity’s lawyer may instead complete the Government Claims Attorney Representation Form by clicking here. Complete the form and fax it to BP at 1-800-810-5650 so that BP will know with whom it should communicate about their claim or funding request. If the government entity is represented, BP cannot continue to communicate directly with the entity until BP receives authorization from the government entity’s lawyer.
